Human Behavior

I'm forever analyzing how people act.

In a predetermined group activity, presumably, everyone would be active, right? Yet, I see the following behaviors:
  • some jump in without a word and participate
  • some wait for others to participate, then copy them
  • some wait and do nothing until they are asked or told to do something
  • some wait and then ask what to do
  • some just wait
What causes some people to not participate? Fear? Laziness? Insecurity? Incompetence? A desire to see others fail and then make fun of them?

In awkward social situations the rule is: to never be the first or last person to do anything.

But I'm talking about a predetermined social situation--one in which shouldn't really be that awkward.

Anyway, I know that a number of factors come into play, including personality and training and habits and emotions and maybe even intelligence.
